Update #5!

Everyone,
I spoke to the team this morning before they headed out for another day on the water! They are all holding up pretty well. Swollen hands, sore butts etc... are to be expected from all the time they have spent in the kayaks.
April and Roger Burns switched out last Thursday with driving the truck and trailer. April wanted us to know a "Ladder guy" from The Horry Fire Department made a sizeable donation to the "cause".
They were in Topsail Beach NC for Fathers Day. It was a rough day for them. They started out with a 1 hour delay due to an early morning thunder storm. After they were on their way another series of storms caught them on the water, they sought shelter under a bridges and wherever else they could find. Ultimately they finished the day two miles past their stopping point cold , wet and very tired! They ate pizza and went to bed.
Yesterday, they were just South of Camp Lejune. It seems they were having "Live Fire Drills". Not the kind we would have, but live "rounds" of fire. Mark Hundley said you could see the rounds skipping off the water in front of them. Needless to say the Marines would not let them pass for nearly two hours! They did get to see several "Ospreys". Again, this was the Marine version of an Osprey. The fellows were up close and personal with the vertical take offs and landings of this military aircraft.
They may have a long day this Saturday when they paddle through the Alligator River (40 miles), but other than that they are glad to be in the "home stretch".
I have attached the flyer for the cookout which is going to be held outside at the old Capt. Georges Restaurant in Pungo next Tuesday the 24th at 12 noon. Contact Jeff Wiegold, or myself for tickets or to make a donation to the Shriners Burn Foundation.
